FowlPlay IV: Migration Cancelled
If you thought Fowl Play I, II or III were good.
Wait until you see the latest in Buck Gardner Calls’ Fowl Play Series – Fowl Play IV: Migration Cancelled.
We’ll let Buck give you his take on the video.
“It’s two hours of really good stuff,” Buck said.
Enough said.
If it’s good enough for the 1995 Champion of Champion caller, it’s good enough for me.
And, it is.
In this action-packed, fast-paced, Generation X video, Buck teams up with his son Brad and champion goose callers John Vaca and Casey Self to “put the hurt’n” on ducks and geese all across Canada and the United States. If killing ducks and geese isn’t enough to satisfy even the most avid waterfowl hunters, there are always the bonus tips on decoy and calling strategies.
Tack on Joel Yeldell’s video and production talents and it’s easy to see why this one came out a winner.
Yeldell also came up with the ‘Migration Cancelled’ idea.
“It’s a neat title because we’re canceling the ticket for a lot of ducks and geese in the video,” Buck said with a laugh.
Buck doesn’t hesitate when asked his favorite part of the video.
“It’s the same as always, hunting with my kids,” Buck said, noting that his son, Brad, is featured in the video and on the video’s cover with his dad.
The video, which has a suggested retail price of $9.99, was a labor of love for Buck and his staff.
“Everybody is always saying, ‘Boy that (making videos) has got to be a lot of fun,’ ” Buck said. “And it is. But I tell people it’s like going to the drive in movies with a real pretty girl and having her mom and dad in the back seat. It’s still fun, but it isn’t quite the same. You can have the best thing in the world happen and if your camera man doesn’t say, ‘OK, Buck, I’m on them’ then a lot of times it doesn’t work.”
That’s why it usually takes an hour to shoot one minute of video.
For only the second time since the series started, Buck, in what he said was a “spontaneous decision,” closed out the video with a dedication segment for his late friend Danny White, who died in a tragic accident on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006.
“Danny was the best friend a man could ever have,” Buck said. “My wife (Marlene) told me I really ought to mention Danny in the video. We’d been friends for 20 years and former business partners. At the end of the video I just thought I ought to say something about Danny. He meant so much to me and my family.”
The only other time Buck had dedicated one of his videos was to his first dog, Maggie, who died in 1998 at the age of 12. Dogs have and always will play an important part in the Fowl Play Series, Buck said, noting that his current dog, Bro is in “semi-retirement” at age 11 ½ and that his newest Lab, Cruz, 2, was featured in Fowl Play IV.
“Dogs are a big part of any of my videos,” Buck said. |
